Northwest ISD has promoted Donna Busby to become principal of Haslet Elementary School, placing a veteran district educator and school administrator at the helm of one of the district’s original schools.
Ms. Busby currently serves as assistant principal of Nance Elementary School, and she previously served in the same role at Thompson Elementary School. She has served as an assistant principal for seven years and has served the students and families for almost 20 years in Northwest ISD overall, joining the district in 2005 as a teacher.
Notably, her new position brings Ms. Busby back to the school where she began her career in Northwest ISD as well as where she spent most of her time. Ms. Busby served as both a teacher and intervention specialist at Haslet for more than a decade before advancing to leadership positions at other district schools.
“I’m so thrilled to return to the families of Haslet Elementary School, which holds a special place in my heart, and support our students and teachers,” she said. “Haslet has a storied history in Northwest ISD, and part of that story is a tradition of education excellence. I look forward to upholding high standards for our students while maintaining the community atmosphere Haslet is known for.”
In addition to her role as a district employee, Ms. Busby also has the experience in the role of a parent of former Haslet students. Both her children attended Haslet Elementary School and graduated from Northwest ISD.
Throughout her tenure at Northwest ISD, Ms. Busby has earned accolades for her teaching abilities and leadership skills. She was the Exemplar Educator for Haslet during the 2014-2015 school year, and she has presented at multiple national leadership conferences.
Ms. Busby earned her master’s degree in educational administration from Lamar University and her bachelor’s degree in psychology and social work from Texas Woman’s University.
